I was born Susan Elizabeth Clout in Amityville, New York on December 13, 1957. From the age of 5 I have wanted to be a teacher but took a very round about way of getting here.

I earned my first degree from Western New England College in Springfield, Massachusetts. That was a B.S. in general business.

Then, in 1979, I moved from the east coast to Colorado to be a ski bum. In 1980 I married my high school sweetheart and we both drove ski shuttle buses in Summit County for many years. In 1987, we had a son who we named Jason.

Realizing finally that I was perhaps born to be a teacher, I commuted from Breckenridge to Metropolitan State College in Denver for two years in order to earn my B.A. in elementary education.

However, having a young child, I was not ready to get a full time job that took me away from him. I got involved with early childhood so I could be with Jason more often. I eventually opened my own daycare in Keystone.

After getting divorced in 1990, I moved to the Denver area. I directed a daycare in Lakewood until Jason was school aged and then started substituting in the public school system as I awaited a full time position. That took 4 years!

Alas, I was hired here at Swansea Elementary in Denver Public Schools as a 2nd grade teacher. I went on to teach 2nd and 3rd grade for several years.

Five years ago, in 2003, I took the position of computer teacher and technology representative.  I have learned a lot about computers, specifically Macs, over the last 5 years. I learned from trainings offered by DPS and I’ve learned from the students.

Now, you can know what I know!
